DISTANCE

And old friend

I was eighteen at Park Place rock and roll, With my friends who lived for music loud, You were British, beautiful, and in control, And I loved you from inside the crowd. You were my friend's girl, I could not say, The words that burned inside my chest, I watched you laugh and walk away, And loved you when I could not rest. Then you left for England far from me, Married now with children of your own, But I still see your face across the sea, And carry feelings I have never shown. And though the years have turned my hair to grey, And rock and roll has faded from my veins, I'll carry you until my dying day, The one who taught my heart to feel its pains.
