THE LAST TIME WE SAW THE WORLD
We looked at life with eyes so pure, Before the pain taught us to fear, The stars felt close and made us secure, And every whisper we could hear. The streets held magic in their ground, The rain fell soft and knew our name, But time stole colors without a sound, And nothing ever felt the same. Now we walk through what used to be, Chasing ghosts of who we've gone, Searching for the child we set free, Hoping to find them at the dawn. We learn too late as we grow old, That youth is not a hand to stay, We see the world once, bright and bold, Then watch it all just fade away. The sunsets we still chase with light, Are echoes of a brighter grey, We reach for what has left our sight, And mourn the loss of yesterday. So let the years take all they must, Let every dream return to dust, For even as we fade and fall, We were the light that lit it all.
